Rally America Crew Holds a 2010 Mustang Showdown
The last thing youd expect to see zooming through Bemidji, Minn. at the Ojibwe Forests Rally is a 2010 Ford Mustang, or any Mustang for that matter. J.B. Niday, managing director of Rally America, had not yet experienced a 2010 Mustang at any of his Rally America competitions, but that was about to change.
Niday unselfishly chose to unleash his inner Mustang with Fords 10 Unleashed campaign through his two good friends Mike Hurst, technical director for Rally America, and Mark Utecht, one of Rally Americas top two wheel drive competitors.
There are no ovals, pace cars or rain delays in Rally racing. The sport features real cars racing against the clock on closed-off sections of real roads that are usually unpaved and unforgiving. Gravel logging roads, mountain passes, well groomed forest roads are what make up the tracks for rally drivers. Events can last several days and cover hundreds of miles through rain, snow and day or night. A rally car is the ultimate real world sports car: one that is capable of high speed and incredible handling on any road surface and in every weather condition.
Niday organized a head-to-head rally in a 2010 Ford Mustang on four stages of the Ojibwe Forests Rally course winner takes all.
Hurst and Utecht are friends off the track and deadly on it. Their friendly conversation of recent years has been about who is behind the wheel of the 86 Mustang that Hurst reluctantly sold to Utecht several years ago and this challenge would settle their Mustang rally feud once and for all.
Hurst last drove his cherished 86 Mustang in a rally in February of 2004. Utecht has proven he knows how to drive a Mustang in the woods by winning the Rally America Group 5 class in his region ever since he bought the 86 Mustang from Hurst.

Father and Son take ultimate Mustang road trip in the latest 2010 Mustang Unleashed video diary
The dream of hitting the open road and taking that unexpected turn appeals to the Mustang side in all of us. The Ford Mustang brings generations together unlike any vehicle on the market and Ford was able to make the dream of Joseph Cram and his father come true with the ultimate unexpected turn.
Joseph Cram, known as Hot Rod Joe, and his father Ralph Cram always dreamt of taking a road trip together in a Ford Mustang. In fact, the Houston resident and his father spent years rebuilding their very own 68 Mustang Coupe with the hopes to someday drive the vehicle together across country, until they were forced to sell their vehicle due to the tough economic times. 16 years later, the Crams dream of cruising in a Mustang became a reality when they were given the opportunity to take a road trip from Houston to Detroit and participate in the Woodward Dream Cruise – one of the largest automotive gatherings in the world.
The Crams experience was made possible by participating in Ford Motor Company’s “The 10 Unleashed” program, which encouraged consumers to submit entries describing their ultimate Mustang dream experience in 250 words or less. Some automotive enthusiasts express their love for cars by purchasing new wheels for their ride, while others simply collect toy model replicas. Not 24-year-old Daniel Velarde, a longtime Mustang fanatic who decided to express his love permanently by getting a new custom Mustang pony logo tattooed on his body.
The Los Angeles resident’s tattoo also inspired the customization of his all-new 2010 Ford Mustang, which was designed to match the permanent ink on his skin. Velardes experience was made possible by participating in The 10 Unleashed program, which encourages fans to submit entries describing their ultimate Mustang dream experience in 250 words or less. Student Races Teacher for a 2010 Ford Mustang (Mustang Payback)
Ever wished you could challenge one of your teachers to a competition? Ford Motor Company gave Derek Murrell of Lake Mary, Florida, the chance to do just that, pitting him against his high school shop teacher Bill Rosenblum in a 2010 Ford Mustang GT drag race grudge match.
A racer in the local central Florida scene, Mr. Rosenblum was a big influence on Derek and his passion for cars. Hearing Mr. Rosenblum talk up his racing skills in class, it became Derek’s dream to face off against his teacher and mentor. Derek submitted this racing dream to the 2010 Mustang Unleashed contest, and to his surprise, he was selected by Ford and arrangements were made to build and test Mustangs for a drag race.

With the warm Arizona wind pelting his forehead and his entire body vibrating from the mighty roar of the engine, Roger Keeney takes a brand new 2010 Ford Mustang convertible on an amazing ride, doing donuts on the pavement and amassing speeds of up to 90 mph. Its a remarkable experience for a man who has been blind for the past 20 years. The sixty-two-year-old Keeney won the chance to drive the new 2010 Mustang by participating in The ‘10 Unleashed promotion, which asks people to describe their ultimate Mustang dream experience in 250 words or less.
